Horse Training

Now booking training for Spring and Summer 2011

Does your horse need a tune up, or do you have a young, green horse that needs some time in the round pen and some de-sensitization on the trail? If so, feel free to give us a call and we can discuss the kind of training you are looking for and if we would be a good fit. Depending on the time of the year and our availability we will fit you in or put you on our wait list. We only take a couple of horses at a time so we can be sure to devote enough time every day to each horse.

Cost of Training: $600/month.
This includes 30 days training, a stall, turnout, hay & grain.

How is our training different?

We believe that training on the trail is beneficial no matter what discipline you are interested in. A lot of horses are trained solely in the arena, but the first time you get them out on the trail and see a butterfly it may as well be the end of the world! That is why we believe actual trail experience is essential. It teaches your horse self confidence that will carry him throughout his life.

These are some of the things we work on:

  • Walking Calmly
  • Staying in a smooth trot or gait
  • Having an easy lope - only if requested
  • Flexing when asked
  • Backing up on command
  • Confidence out on the trail
  • Crossing bridges & logs
  • Riding by the rail road and the highway
  • Riding through puddles, running streams, and walking through ponds
  • Riding through ditches, and up and down steep hills
  • Riding with animals jumping out of the brush (our dogs do it all the time, and every now and then we ride up on a nesting turkey too!)

When we come upon a new obstacle, we let the horse sniff it out if he is leery, and then ease him on. If he shows anxiety, we do not let him turn around and forget about it. We just give him time and allow him to become comfortable with it and always end on a good note. In working with your horse on new obstacles, he will also learn how to safely handle new situations in the future which is a great trait to have in any horse.

We hope we answered your questions, but if you have any more feel free to give us a call.
